Al ser consultado acerca de las cualidades que debe tener un buen marcador central, puesto en el que “El Mariscal” brillo, este dijo: “La principal virtud son la técnica individual y la velocidad. Todos los que miden a los centrales cometen un error tremendo, la altura no es algo fundamental, mientras se sepa cabecear. Por ejemplo, Daniel Passarella tenía una altura normal y les ganaba a todos.”
“En la dupla central, los jugadores deben complementarse: si uno es lento, el otro tiene que ser rápido; si uno es gordo, el otro debe ser flaco; si uno sale jugando, el otro debe tener la seguridad como arma principal. Hoy escasean muchos los jugadores en esa posición a nivel mundial.”, sentenció Perfumo.
Asimismo, agregó: “En la historia no hay dos pases iguales, ni dos partidos iguales. El partido se va leyendo constantemente como un libro en el cual cada página es distinta a la otra. Por eso, el central tiene que saber cómo distribuye su tropa.”
El periodista también recordó en su charla con Radiogol a los grandes futbolistas que se desempeñaron en ese puesto: “El mejor dos que he visto fue Elías Figueroa. Es un chileno que jugó en su selección, en O´Higgins, Peñarol e inter de Brasil. Era el más completo: cabeceaba, era rápido, tenía buena técnica y leía muy bien el juego.”
“El mejor argentino fue Pepe Ramos Delgado que jugó en River, en Lanús y en el Santos de Pelé. Yo lo suplanté en la selección argentina en el año 1965. También hubo otros como Navarro de Independiente o José Salomón”, añadió.
Perfumo fue muy crítico y pesimista respecto a la actualidad del fútbol mundial y al surgimiento de nuevos talentos: “La gente ya no juega al fútbol: juega a la Playstation, ve 120 partidos por semana por televisión, los pibes se dedican a fumar. No hay fútbol, no veo a los chicos jugar en la calle. Para que salga un solo buen central, tiene que haber 100 mil que jueguen y hoy no hay.”
“En mi época solo teníamos la pelota: hoy hay internet, TV, Playstation, radio y todos los estímulos. Eso es mucho más cómodo que jugar el fútbol, porque practicar implica levantarse temprano, salir a correr. Esto también está sucediendo en Brasil. En Uruguay es el único lugar donde se siguen viendo picados por todos lados.”, sostuvo.
Finalmente, manifestó su disconformidad con los encargados de formar a los jóvenes: “Hoy hay pocos maestros. El maestro hoy es un tipo que prepara a los chicos a los doce años para venderlos, no para jugar.”
